What is a Hive vs a Session?

Hives organize members and Sessions. Sessions are where you share files and collab.

3 August 2026

Plain difference

A Hive is your project or group home. You invite members, track goals/updates, and manage the Sessions tied to that Hive.

A Session is the collaboration workspace. That is where you share audio files, lyrics, notes, assign roles, and lock credits.

Both are live on Soundhiver now.

How to use a Hive

Typical flow:

  1. Go to Hives and create a Hive (name, genre, visibility, who you are looking for).
  2. Invite collaborators to the Hive.
  3. From the Hive, create a Session when you are ready to work on a song.
  4. Manage multiple Sessions under the same Hive if the project needs more than one room.

How to use a Session

Inside a Session:

  1. Upload demos and file versions.
  2. Add lyrics and notes so everyone works from the same page.
  3. Assign roles for each person.
  4. Lock a role when that contribution is done so Verified Credits appear on profiles.

Which should I open first?

If you have a crew or longer project: create the Hive first, then open Sessions from it.

If you only need one quick collab room: you can open a Session directly, then still attach or manage work as needed.
